Canine Teeth Anatomy

Teeth are very important mostly to all the creatures, as they are used mainly for eating and sometimes for defense. Mammals have many different sizes and shape of teeth, this is known as heterodonty, it means allowing several different kinds of teeth to be used for different tasks. These specialized teeth include: Incisors, Canine teeth Premolars and the Molars. Mammals also have two sets of teeth: a deciduous set or milk teeth and the permanent teeth set.

There are so many different variations of teeth in the animal kingdom. In most mammals, there are at least two distinctive types of teeth that have different pattern of growth shape: low-crowned teeth those are what are seen in human, in meat eating mammals such as dogs. This type of teeth has a root embedded in the jawbone.

The crown is surrounded by a coat of enamel and the root in cementum. The enamel is the hardest substance you can find in the body and it is being densely packed with hydroxyapatite a mineral crystal and heavily mineralized with calcium salts. Cementum is a calcified connective tissue. Another is Dentin, a bonelike material, is under the enamel coating and makes up the majority of the tooth.

The hypsodont or the high-crowned teeth are continuing to erupt all throughout the life. A hypsodont teeth are described as a tooth with a body, most are just below the gumline, and the root, is embedded in the jaw bone. The enamel coats the entire body of the teeth but the root isn’t.

In both kinds of teeth, may it be a low or high crowned, it is mainly attached to a socket in the jaw. It is attached through a very fibrous capsule called gomphosis. An additional type of nomenclature is used to describe the different texture of the surfaces of the teeth.

canines are carnivorous, and have sets teeth that reveal their meat eating history. Most of our pet dogs, have been turned into something else they are now, omnivores, as majority of dry dog foods may contain the right proportion of meat and plant   

The dogs like the Alaskan huskies - they might appear to be vicious, but they are actually having when they are snarling while playing tug-of-war with a companion. Unless you do not know a dog, snarling should always be interpreted as a warning of an aggression or dominance. In some cases, the dogs show a behavior called smiling, in which it is typically a submissive behavior, and associated with tail wagging.

A common anomaly in a dog’s teeth is retention of the deciduous teeth. This happens when the set of adult permanent teeth buds did not grow immediately underneath the baby teeth, where in it did not cause the root of the baby teeth to be absorbed in the gums. If your dog has  a retained tooth, and it causes the permanent set of tooth to erupt in a very abnormal position which can lead to other types of problem, it should be extracted as soon as possible.
